Dr. Ethan Balkin
Isotope R&D Program Manager @DoE
Ethan Balkin, Ph.D is the DOE IP Program Manager for Isotope Research and Development (R&D). He is responsible for R&D of accelerator and reactor-based isotopes at National Laboratories, domestic universities, and non-profit research institutions. Prior to joining the DOE IP, Dr. Balkin was a Professor at the University of Washington. His research was focused on solid target chemistry for the production of cyclotron based isotopes, as well as the development of bio-conjugation and radiolabeling techniques for monoclonal antibodies and small molecules. Dr. Balkin completed his undergraduate work with a research focus in radio-analytical chemistry at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He earned his doctorate in pathobiology with an emphasis in targeted radiopharmaceutical therapy and rational drug design, also at Mizzou. In between degrees, Dr. Balkin spent two years working in drug development for a critical-care segment of pediatrics at the Mizzou Department of General Surgery.
